The population of Egypt is growing fast. The same goes for the industries and agriculture. This leads to a pressure of the water supply, both in quality and quantity. The influence of human health is high on the Egyptian agenda, and thus the safe water supply.
An Egyptian delegation visited KWR Water Cycle Research Institute and the World Water Academy in Nieuwegein on the 29th of October. The delegates were staff members of the Holding Company in Water and Wastewater (HCWW) and water companies. The Ministery of Housing and Urban Development and the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation were presented as well.
The focus of the meeting was on safe water supply. How is it organized in The Netherlands? How is it controlled and assessed? Ideas and experiences were exchanged during the meeting. Education and training were part of the discussion as well. We focused on lifelong learning for operators at drinking water production and wastewater treatment utilizes.
HCWW is interested to set-up a training institute with a focus on water in Egypt. The first steps have been set and the network has been strengthened. We are heading for a new adventure.
