Goal

Good quality and sufficient drinking water is essential for each other's health. The Water supply company is responsible for the production of good and enough drinking water. From surface water or ground water the drinking water is made. Before you can drink this raw water several steps have to be taken. The operators,  their superiors  and the company have an important task to provide the safe drinking water.

In this course you get an overview of the whole process of water supply. You learn why safe water is important, how you produce drinking water, what the steps are in the production and what is needed in each step to produce the safe drinking water. Troubleshooting, operation and maintenance are also subjects in this course.

After this course you have an overview of the whole process. When something goes wrong you know in what step of the process you must search for the solution.
With this knowledge the participants feel more responsible in their job in making drinking water.
After the course the participant knows the process of each water treatment step and the process as a whole.

Content

The content of the course consists of:

  • Water from source to tap to billing
  • Aspects chemistry, biology of water
  • Surface water treatment steps:
    o raw water,
    o coagulation,
    o sedimentation,
    o filtration,
    o disinfection
  • Fluctuation of quality and quantity raw water
  • Dosage, Mixing and sampling
  • Hygiene and safety aspects
  • Troubleshooting.

Training approach

Besides classroom presentations this course exists of interactive and innovative training methods, as group work, discussions, practical exercises, demonstrations, presentations, role-plays, tailored to the objectives of the training. This course includes a field visit. The course will end with an written assessment.
